The National Water Mission (NWM), under the aegis of the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR), is one of the eight missions being constituted under the National Action Plan for Climate Change (NAPCC).

The overall objective of the NWM, as stated in the mission document is “conservation of water, minimizing wastage and ensuring its more equitable distribution both across and within States through integrated water resources development and management”.

The Water Resources situation, its development, management and availability are State specific. Many of the identified strategies/actions to achieve the goals of the NWM are required to be taken by the State Governments/Union Territories. In this context, NWM desired to develop State Specific Action Plans for Water Sector aligned with the State Action Plan on Climate Change (SSAPCC) formulated by the States under NAPCC which give the holistic roadmap to achieve the desired goals. The Mission had directed the Water Resources Department (WRD) Government of Karnataka (GoK) for preparing the action plan for the State.

ACIWRM the nodal agency of WRD, GoK in assistance with Grassroots Research And Advocacy  Movement (GRAAM) has prepared draft report  on“State/UT Specific Action Plans (SSAP) on Water: Towards Water Security, Safety and Sustainability: 2050. Based on available secondary data, review of relevant documents and reports; and using appropriate norms, guidelines and methodology, supply and demand across basins as well as at the state level have been estimated.
